Oops…An Overcharge

On January 28, 2008, the office of the Wayne County Prosecutor asked for a change in the sentencing guidelines being used in the Saint Dunstan embezzlement case.

The original criminal charges for the former parish secretary announced at the December 18, 2007 press conference were “Embezzlement over $100,000, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and/or $25,000, or 3 times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater and, Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or $20,000.”

After Monday’s preliminary examination in 21st District Court in Garden City, the charges are now Embezzlement over $20,000, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and/or $15,000, or 3 times the amount embezzled and, Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and/or $10,000.

Next court date is February 11, 2008 at 8:30 am at the Wayne County Circuit Court.

If Wayne County got something as basic as the sentencing guidelines wrong, do you think there may have been other errors in the Saint Dunstan press release?

Think about this:

At the urging of the Archdiocese of Detroit and amid the numerous murders, rapes and other violent crimes in Wayne County, the Mistress of Morality, Kym Worthy found 30 minutes in her busy schedule to drone on about the non-criminal behaviors of Father Don, a white suburban Catholic priest.  But when it comes to the potential criminal allegations of perjury against the standing Mayor of Detroit, this high-profile public figure and his intimate text message scandal only warrants 3 minutes of Worthy’s precious time in an ask-no-questions press conference.  So what is her sub-text message?
